Verbio Nevada Biorefinery
The Verbio Nevada Biorefinery, located in Nevada, Iowa (USA), is the first industrial scale combined bioethanol and renewable natural gas (RNG) facility in North America using corn and agricultural residues as its feedstock. The plant is 100% owned by Verbio North America Holdings Corporation.
RNG production at the facility began in December 2021 with the completion of Phase I, reaching a capacity of 7 million ethanol gallons equivalent (EGE) per year. Following the completion of Phase II in August 2024, the site now operates as a fully integrated biorefinery, capable of producing up to 60 million gallons of corn-based ethanol and 2.3 million MMBtu of renewable natural gas (RNG) annually. The RNG is produced from stillage, a by-product of ethanol production, maximizing resource efficiency and sustainability. This integrated process — unique to Verbio — leverages advanced operational technologies developed and proven at the company’s facilities in Germany, while also generating humus and organic fertilizers as valuable co-products.
