Biogas (Renewable Natural Gas)

Renewable natural gas (RNG), also known as biogas or biomethane, can be used as a transportation fuel in vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Verbio has developed technology to produce RNG from cellulosic feedstocks, including agricultural residues such as corn stover and wheat straw, as well as stillage generated during bioethanol production.

The feedstock undergoes anaerobic digestion in large tanks over a period of 20 to 60 days. During this process, raw biogas is produced, consisting of approximately 55% methane and 45% carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide and other impurities are removed through a gas upgrading process, resulting in nearly pure RNG that is chemically equivalent to conventional natural gas. The RNG is then injected directly into the natural gas distribution system on-site.
